Introduction to Oncology Massage
Are you oncology massage-aware? We all need to be.
Clients affected by cancer show up in sports massage clinics, workplace wellness, prenatal treatments and everywhere else. To do no harm and provide safe treatment, massage therapists need foundational knowledge on how to work with the varied and complex side effects of cancer treatment. Oncology massage training ensures that every client that comes to you for massage, even those living with or recovering from cancer treatment, can be confident that they are in competent hands.
PREPARING MASSAGE THERAPISTS TO WORK SAFELY AND EFFECTIVELY IN ONCOLOGY CARE
As the demand for oncology massage-trained therapists continues to rise, it is essential for practitioners to possess the knowledge and confidence necessary to address the multifaceted side effects of cancer treatment. This in-person course adopts a comprehensive approach that integrates essential knowledge, critical thinking, and hands-on techniques to equip therapists with the skills needed to administer massage therapy safely and effectively to individuals impacted by cancer.

About the Instructor
Janet Penny, RMT, has been a registered massage therapist since 2007 with a private practice focused on working with people affected by cancer. She is the co-author of Oncology Massage: An integrative approach to cancer care and provides training in oncology massage.
Two (2) out of five (5) Canadians are diagnosed with cancer, and rates of both cancer and survivorship are increasing. People affected by cancer show up in every practice setting; all massage therapists need to be prepared to provide a thorough intake and careful treatment planning to ensure safe massage. Introduction to Oncology Massage is evidence-informed and has a whole person approach.
Oncology massage provides restorative and rehabilitative support to people who have undergone medical cancer treatments including surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, hormone therapy and immunotherapy. Janet uses an approach that creates a strong foundation of knowledge upon which safe treatment can be created for anyone with any type of cancer, at any stage of treatment and beyond.
Janet created Oncology Massage Canada to provide a range of resources for massage therapists who are looking for support in continuing their education and life-long learning. https://www.oncologymassagecanada.ca/
