About the instructor:
Thera Breau is a graduate from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, with a degree in physiotherapy. She worked in Kingston in the field of home care for a short time before relocating to the Peace Country of Northern Alberta in 2003. Thera worked in a rural hospital as the sole physiotherapist for 10 years. During this time, she received training in neuroanatomical acupuncture and became certified with the AFCI in 2008. During Thera’s time in Alberta she participated in the Mulligan courses, the NOI courses, certified in treatments of pelvic conditions from the Royal Alec Hospital and completed levels 1 and 2 in the Kinseo taping courses. Thera moved back to New Brunswick in 2015 and worked at CBI Health Centre in Dieppe, where she saw outpatient orthopedic clients of all ages and conditions, including MVA clients and Work Safe clients. While in Dieppe she did two extensive courses with Baram Jam (APTEI) regarding the thoraco-lumbar and cervico-thoracic areas. In April 2017, Thera moved to Dalhousie, NB to work at Vitalite Health network. She is now in private practice in the same area. She uses k-tape regularly in her practice in different applications from muscular supportive tapings, positional joint tapings, bruises, and as well neural unloading taping. Thera’s expertise with K-taping is a fundamental asset to all her clients and developing this course for massage therapists will benefit both RMT’s and clients as well.

NISA (Neuromuscular Integration and Structural Alignment)

  • has been taught to RMTs for over 30 years
  • is a very detailed, specific fascia technique to get to the root of your client’s problem
  • is much easier on the therapist than most fascial techniques
  • helps strengthen the mind/body connection and release the client’s stuck emotions
  • is a proven technique that helps rid your clients of long-term pain and dysfunction.  Clients will feel more freedom of movement and calmness of mind.
  • teaches RMTs to look at the body in a new way, to see the person as a whole

NISA is a deep tissue technique that works directly on the fascia of the body.  It provides long lasting changes to chronic postural habits, and most clients feel increased range of motion and less restriction after one or two treatments.

NISA is a softer, more gentle derivative of Rolfing, and can be performed in individual treatments or in a specific series of twelve weekly sessions with a direct focus of improving the person’s posture.

The NISA process releases fascial adhesions; it stretches, frees, & clears the tissue.  The softened layers of fascia, having regained their flexibility and elasticity, permit improved structural alignment and body mechanics.

The NISA Basic Course (28 hours)

The four day basic training is an intensive, practical, hands-on workshop, and the techniques can easily be incorporated into your massage practice.

Cupping Massage

College of Acupuncture and Therapeutics

CMTNB 3.25 Category "A" CEUs

Length: 1 day,

Cost: $225 - The tuition includes a cupping set for you to take home. ($50 non-refundable deposit)

Prerequisite: health care professionals and manual therapists

Location:
Moncton Lions Community Centre
473 St. George Street
Moncton, NB

Cupping Massage brings the ancient art of cupping to the modern-day practice. This modality allows for a unique approach to the fascia and body fluids. Cupping has an ability to affect deeper tissue, remove fascial restrictions, and increase range of motion, with little stress on your hands. This modality takes only one day to learn and you will walk away with a whole new technique to add to your skills.

Cupping goes far beyond simple fascial techniques, concepts such as angiogenesis, metabolism and immune response will be explored. Cupping is put into context within the global environment, with discussions and demonstrations providing understanding of the affects cupping has on the whole body. During the practical component the theory will be put into practice, along with discussion and demonstrations of the physiological changes that take place. Application will cover more than just the back; scars, fascia, joints, trigger points, muscle imbalances and even pleura techniques will be applied.

Note: Health professionals require training and certification to be covered within liability insurance. Traditional cupping (fire cupping) is restricted to Acupuncturists and TCM practitioners.
